My life has been busy apparently, as I notice that my last post was almost 2 months ago. Work at Prairie Restorations has been hard, but fun and everyday there's a new project to do it seems. I got trained in the basics of tractor driving, with the disker attachment (used to break up the soil after a fire). Thankfully no one was hurt and I didn't run into the client's house. Success!
I'm a little depressed lately because I haven't heard from my boyfriend who will be in Japan for one more month. He's been there for over a month now, and I received a couple of emails from him in the first week, but I have since emailed him 4 times, the last two asking him if he would please respond because I want to know how he's doing, and still I haven't heard from him. I don't really know what to think. So I'll do my best to put it out of my mind for now, but it's really distracting.
Over the fourth of July weekend, I went up to Snowy Pines Reforestation in Browerville, MN, a small sustainable forestry business that was hosting Ken Pentel for the weekend as he campaigns around the state for governor on the Ecology Democracy Party ticket. I went out with him to some small towns to hand out flyers, and we participated in the parade in Brainerd, then had a "Meet the Candidate" event in a sustainable farming village called Camp Hill. The couple who started Snowy Pines reforestation are really interesting people. Their saw mill and house is solar powered, and they have a huge garden that they sell vegetables from at the local farmer's market. One of the main projects they are working on is convincing the people in nearby Wadena, MN who recently had that blow down, to use the trees on the ground to rebuild houses, and employ people in the community to do it. I wish them the best of luck--their I idea makes to most financial and ecological sense for the people of Wadena.
In case anyone who reads my blog is interested, here is the web address of Ken Pentel's campaign blog: http://kenpentelforgovernor.blogspot.com/ Ken plus a few people in the Party are canoeing down the Mississppi, and there are pictures of that posted.
In the rest of my free time I continue to do belly dancing, salsa dancing, work in the garden, hang out with friends, try to get beefed up for work with the P90X exercised program, and last weekend Adam and I were in the Dragon Boat Races at Lake Phalen. We're in the boat in the back, and I'm the second rower. Adam's on the other side of the boat further back. We got 11th place, but we all did our best and it was really fun, so that's what was important.
Until later!
